Vancouver Westside

If you're new to Vancouver, it's very likely that you have at least once been confused about the difference between Vancouver West, the Westside, the West End, and West Vancouver. Believe it or not, these are very different areas. And by knowing the differences, you can not only pass as a seasoned local, but it can also save you a little embarrassment and quite frankly a whole lot of extra driving.   Simply put, "Vancouver West" is the area that encompasses the entire west half of the City of Vancouver, which includes most of the downtown peninsula.  The "West End" is the western most neighbourhood on the downtown peninsula, and the "Westside" makes up all of Vancouver West that isn't actually part of downtown.  And if that isn't confusing enough, "West Vancouver" is a completely separate municipality located across the Lions Gate Bridge, on the North Shore.  Even just explaining it is difficult.  But if there's one thing they all have in common, it's that they're all awesome places to live!

Surrounded by ocean, Vancouver's Westside is a beautiful beachside community, with a generally younger population that embodies a strong health and fitness-conscious culture at its core, but with a laid-back vibe. It's like Canada's answer to Southern California. And because it's also the home to the renowned University of British Columbia, it's also a popular place for many local and international post-secondary students and their families to plant roots. Beautiful beaches, sunsets and spectacular views of the city skyline against the rugged North Shore Mountains makes Vancouver's Westside one of Canada's most desirable places to live.
